Rahul Gandhi invokes the Gita at CII meet, leaves India Inc Impressed
"Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi while addressing leaders of India Inc at an event in the national capital invoked the Bhagavad Gita, the sacred Hindu text, saying compassion was key to peace and development."
Gandhi was talking at the annual general meeting of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had also addressed the corporate honchos on the first day of the meet on Wednesday.
"Our idea is so big that it can take along people outside India also... the idea is compassion... Mahatma Gandhi said it, Buddha said it and it is written in the Gita also," Gandhi said."
And all the "captains of Industry" clapped their hands feverishly, they were "impressed" because, you never know, if the Congress wins again, they will have to deal with the Congress' made-and-imported-from-Italy President again and nothing pleases mama mia more than the faithful on their knees and those adoring her child.
But Rahul and his non-speech is not the topic of this blip. MK Gandhi and his speech is. On 22nd December 1916, MK Gandhi delivered a speech under the aegis of Muir Central College Economic Society, Allahabad and the title was "Does Economic Progress clash with real progress"?
Me dearies to show you all how far the INC (Indian National Congress) has traveled from the days of INC under Gandhi to INC under Rahul Gandhi, I will spend precious morning time typing the picture:
So that you all understand how the INC has been tap-dancing in the same spot from being headed by colonial Europeans to their economic policies and even to their speeches in economic forums, let me quote Rahul Gandhi first so that you all savour then words of MK Gandhi 100 years ago from another economic forum.
"The idea is compassion - Mahatma Gandhi said it, Buddha said it and it is written in the Gita also" - said Rahul Gandhi.
Now MK Gandhi: (in 1916)
"The question we are asking ourselves this evening is not a new one. It was addressed to Jesus two thousand years ago. St. Mark (ch. 10, vv. 17-31) has vividly described the scene. Jesus is in his solemn mood; he is earnest. He talks of eternity. He knows the world about him. He is himself the greatest economist of his time. He succeeded in economising time and space - he transcended them. It is to him at his best that one comes running, kneels down and asks: "Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?" And Jesus said unto him: "Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, and that is God. Thou knowest the commandments. Do not commit adultery. Do not kill. Do not steal. Do not bear false witness. Defraud not. Honour they father and mother". And he answered and said unto him: "Master, all these have I observed from my youth." Then Jesus beholding him, loved him and said unto him: "One thing thou lackest. Go thy way, sell whatever thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven - come take up the cross and follow me."
"And he was sad at that saying and went away grieved - for he had great possessions. And Jesus looked around about and said unto his disciples, "How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the Kingdom of God". And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again and saith unto them: "Children, how hard it is for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God".
And MK Gandhi goes on and on and on. At the core of all of MK Gandhi's philosophy or worldview was his imposing the dharma of one varna on another leading to varnasamkara. The dharma of a kshatriya is not the dharma of the Vaishya and to impose the dharma of the brahmin on the ksahtriya and the vaishya is what MK Gandhi did all his life - and that is how he unmanned the Hindu kshatriya leading the country to vivisection.
Hindu society produced the best in every aspect of life - long before MK Gandhi, long before Jesus.
A ring-side seat told me that Narendra Modi will be addressing FICCI in New Delhi on Monday. I will bet my last pair of dog-chewed chappals he will quote MK Gandhi too. There is MK Gandhi quote for all people for all occasions - like when those who advocated killing street dogs quoted Gandhi and those who protested killing street dogs also quoted Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi said it, Buddha said it and it is written in the Gita also," Gandhi said.
The 42-year-old said the solution to the complex problems in India and the various resultant conflicts lay in listening to the people who have no voice and having more inclusive policies.
"If you could just hear what people have to say... it is good; going to the worst enemy and hearing him (out)," said Gandhi.
Gandhi's maiden interaction with industry leaders after he became the Congress vice president left them "impressed".
"It was a very good interaction. It sets the tone for future interaction. He spoke very broadly about various issues," said S. Gopalakrishnan, president designate, CII.
In his speech, Gandhi called for inclusive growth and closer cooperation between industry and the government. However, he did not touch upon the major macro-economic problems like inflation, slowdown in growth and ballooning current account and fiscal deficits.
Gopalakrishnan said the interaction was up to the expectations of the industry leaders. "This was his first engagement with the business community and he met the industry's expectation."
CII president Adi Godrej said Gandhi's ideas were brilliant and they should inspire industry and the government to work in unison.
"Rahul Gandhi was requested to address the plenary session on his general views which he did in a superb manner, and I think it was very well accepted by the audience," Godrej said.
During an hour-long interaction, 42-year-old Rahul Gandhi, who became the vice president of the 127-year-old Congress Party on January 19, spoke on many issues and answered questions from business leaders with confidence.
Reacting to the speech, Bajaj Group chairman Rahul Bajaj said the industrialists were captivated by Gandhi's interaction.
"I don't think he limited himself to deficit or inflation. He is not in the government, that is not his job. He is concerned about the people. He talked of harmony, compassion and working together," Bajaj said.
Bharti Airtel chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said the speech was rare and inspirational. "It was an outstanding speech... He understood importance of technology and inclusion, which gives us hope as future leader," Mittal said.
Aren't you impressed with a congressman without a Gandhi cap among top Industrialists of India all wearing western attire,"a suit." What a dedication to the motto of simplicity of the Mahatma and the Indian National Congress (INC) displayed by this deceptive loaded man in simple "sadraa" who is a billionnaire by virtue of inheritance oozing with compassion for the poor among the filthy wealthy of India !!! What a great show by an undeserving upstart appointed to the top leadership of the country to be ruled by a demonarchy !! See the articles on Demonarchy on this blog.
