GREAT SCHOLAR, ERUDITE INTELLECTUAL, VERSATILE BUSINESSMAN, AND DEVOTED SWAYAMSEVAK, FRIEND-PHILOSOPHER-GUIDE TO THREE GENERATIONS
Dr. Seshachalam Dutta, born on October 25, 1931 passed away on October 31, 2015.
He had his early education in India with a Master's degree in Botany from Birla College, Pilani,
India. He was the youngest Chairman of Botany Department at V. R. College in Nellore, India.
He obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from McGill University of Montreal, Canada. Shri Seshachalamji then came to USA in 1967 after making a sincere effort to return to India after his
Ph.D. He became Assistant Professor at Creighton Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska, as well as
an Associate Professor in Biochemistry and Pediatrics at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences
Center in Oklahoma City. He lived in Oklahoma City for over 40 years. During this time he was very active in the Oklahoma City community, co-founder of Hindu Vishwa Parishad sponsored "Balavihar"
(Sunday School) for children and youth in 1982. Later, he actively participated in the Oklahoma Hindu
Temple activities.
He had owned a laboratory for production of bio-medical equipment after his retirement from OUHSC.
He also became a Realtor and Property Developer. He had special skills in managing investments.
He was well versed in Telagu, Hindi, and Sanskrit poetry reciting by-heart verses after verses. He had assimilated Telagu, Hindi and Sanskrit literature, and widely read English literature. He even ventured
to get admitted to a Medical School in Mexico to pursue medical education but relented to the pressure
by his family to return to the U.S. after spending a year or two in the medical school there.
He was well versed in Indian politics, as he was a freedom fighter in the Indian pre-independence era,
Indian History, Hindu Philosophy, and Spirituality. He had deep knowledge of the American and World Political History. He was known to all who met him, and spent time conversing with him, as a true philosopher, and a true leader.
He was a member of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, actively participating in
activities with the youth and younger adults, although he was an in his 80's.
He committed his life to fight for justice, equality, and human progress. He was an academician and
a teacher at heart in the purest form, but also inspired those who knew him in any capacity to aspire to their highest potential.
He is survived by his wife Dr. Smt. Shakuntala Dutta, his son Dr. Suresh Dutta, and his younger son Dr. Anil Dutta and their families including grand children.
He was a regular contributor to www.sookta-sumana.blogspot.com since its inception. His astute
