Muslim women having Darsanam in Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy Devalayam in Kadapa.
KADAPA, April 1, 2014
Burkha-clad Muslim women, accompanied by men and children,
offered prayers at Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy Devasthanam at
Devuni Kadapa here on Ugadi festival.
Muslim women had darsanam of Sri Venkateswara Swamy and
Padmavathi Devi and presented Kobbari Kaayi (Coconut),
Phalaalu (fruits) and Karpooram (camphor) along
with Biyyam (rice) and Pappulu (cereals) to
the presiding deities, as part of an age-old tradition in Kadapa.
They offered prayers at the Garbha Gudi (sanctum sanctorum),
Dhwaja stambham and Balipeetham and received
Theertham and Prasadam from the Ayyavaru (priests),
who blessed them. A devotee Janab Basha who came with
his family members said Muslims offer prayers to
the Lord and his consort in a traditional manner,
a practice in vogue since ages. Hindu devotees too
thronged several temples across Kadapa district.
